OK - lets talk                about that elephant  in                    the room

or:- When acting get's serious and demanding
"As always, with acting, you can't be too self-conscious. You shouldn't care about what people are thinking about you at the time because they're not caring about you, they're caring about the character."       Freddie Highmore
I say elephant but actually for many young and new actors looking to take things a bit further than just "a bit of fun" and heading more for a career in acting it feels like a whole herd of elephants. Let's explore.

As you know the drama work @ 2lo is split into two divisions - Dramania and Act4ward. The difference is how many elephants we allow in the room.

Dramania is aimed at those starting out with or without a previous interest in drama.

It is built around having fun creating and performing but makes no demands other than this, and limits demands made of the actor taking part.

Act4ward on the other hand is built on inviting the elephants in and making them welcome [maybe a bit to much of the metaphor here] but anyway it means that the actor is not limited to what and how they perform within the basic brief.

This is the realistic approach suited to those wishing to make a career of acting and performance and is designed to build up personal self confidence and preperation for what comes next.

Performers are human, so the elephant [s] in the room will vary , both in symtom and intensity. Also it is quite likely that many will have more than one to deal with, maybe several at one time. Rest assured I have had years of dealing with this, and once you start addressing your fears and doubts most elephants choose to leave.
